Parent FAQs

Our program is inclusive—we believe anyone can research, so eligibility is open to high school students interested in STEM, Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts & Creative fields, regardless of background or ideas. There's no strict selectivity beyond basic motivation and access to a laptop. We accommodate global participants with flexible timing for different time zones. The main limitation is the student's agreement with the available resources that have been discussed with the mentor.

No, a student does not need a specific research question or fully formed project idea to apply. We believe anyone can research, so students with or without ideas qualify for our program. During the process, they'll collaborate with mentors to construct and refine ideas into feasible projects.

No prior knowledge, skills, or coding experience is required. We welcome students at any starting level—including true beginners. Our mentors guide them step-by-step, teaching the necessary research and technical skills along the way using free, accessible tools (some projects involve simple coding with full support, others use no-code options). Our goal is to make authentic research available to any motivated student.

Our mentors are professors, postdoctoral researchers and PhD researchers from universities worldwide, with expertise in various research fields. A few have moved on from a university post since we first listed them, so each mentor profile states their current position.

After enrollment and payment, student discusses interests and project ideas with available mentors. We match carefully based on expertise, availability, and project feasibility within the timeline. The mentor provides early guidance on whether the project is realistic and helps refine it as needed. Success is a shared effort: the mentor offers expert support, while the student drives progress through consistent work. We strive for the best possible fit to ensure a positive experience.

No — never. ResForMe does not record any mentoring sessions.

Unlike some other programs that have used student recordings to train AI models, we believe your child’s privacy comes first. All meetings are live-only, and both mentors and students are prohibited from recording. Parents explicitly agree to this policy in our signed consent form.

Program pricing is shown on our Pricing page. After applying, we'll recommend the best plan for your goals. An initial deposit secures enrollment and mentor access, with the remaining balance due before ongoing communication begins. All software tools and research resources are provided at no extra cost—there are no hidden fees.

Students need only a standard computer (laptop or desktop) with internet access. All projects use free, web-based software and tools—no special equipment, paid subscriptions, or additional resources are required.

Yes—our program focuses on computational and quantitative approaches that are fully online. Traditional lab topics (e.g., biology simulations, data analysis) are adapted using free software tools. If physical elements are needed, we guide toward feasible alternatives like modeling, visualization, or virtual experiments—ensuring accessibility and impact without extra costs.

Meeting frequency varies by student, project, and pace—typically 1–2 times per week. We offer optional drop-in sessions; many students prefer daily 1:1 written communication, which often moves projects faster than video calls. Some prefer video for visual confirmation that their work is innovative and impactful. We guide toward small, high-impact projects to avoid endless timelines. The base program is 4 weeks; poster/publication paths extend to 8–16 weeks. If unfinished after 4 weeks, we provide an extra week free. Students and mentors plan feasibility upfront.

Live video sessions are kept concise and productive, never exceeding one hour. Their length is adjusted to the student's needs—often shorter for quick check-ins or focused discussions. Most ongoing progress happens through daily written communication via Talk2Me, allowing students to reach out anytime with questions or updates and receive same-day responses. Students are expected to work independently between sessions.

Students can explore a wide range of topics across STEM, social sciences, humanities, and creative fields—e.g., data analysis, simulations, AI applications, historical research, policy studies, or literature reviews using free tools. Projects are often computational or quantitative but adaptable to your interests. Longer timelines (8–16 weeks) better support presentations, competitions, or publications. We focus on building strong research and critical thinking skills for college and beyond.

Yes. A student who completes the program receives a personalized letter from the mentor who worked with them. The mentor writes it, the mentor signs it, and it reflects the work the student actually did: completed outcomes, skills developed, and growth demonstrated. Where a project is still running at the end of the program, the letter says so and describes the work as ongoing, which is entirely normal in research (no research truly finishes, scientific progress is continuous). The letter is written from real work, so it is earned rather than bought, and no payment changes what it says.

Completing a project demonstrates initiative, accomplishment, and strong research skills—strengthening college applications, résumés, and portfolios. Students also develop valuable abilities in presenting their work, communicating complex ideas to the public, and disseminating research outcomes effectively. The recommendation letter and tangible project outputs (reports, posters, code repositories, or publications) highlight personal growth, perseverance, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to a field. Publications or conference presentations are especially impactful, as the letter provides evidence of the student’s authored work shared publicly.

Yes—after completing the Explore plan (Basic Research Foundation), students are welcome to continue to the Poster or Journal plan. We support every motivated student’s research journey and will gladly promote them to the next level. If approved, you only pay the difference in price (not the full amount of the higher plan), allowing seamless progression toward presentations, competitions, or publications.

We are committed to providing a safe environment for all participants. Student safety is our top priority.

Before a mentor works with a student, every mentor:
• Must disclose any criminal history to us
• Gives professional references that we contact
• Has their academic and professional credentials reviewed
• Passes a live video interview

We are adding independent background checks and will name the provider here once they are running.

All mentoring is conducted 100% online only (via Google Meet or Zoom), with no in-person contact allowed.

Yes, within the program. The pace inside each week is flexible, and the mentor adjusts what the student works on to match their progress. The length of the program is the one you chose, counted in calendar weeks from the first video call, so the end date is set at the start and moved or missed sessions do not change it. If a student wants more time than the package holds, we are glad to arrange an extension as a separate agreement, with its own dates and price agreed before it begins. And if something serious happens, such as illness, bereavement, or a family emergency, a parent or guardian can ask us once to pause the program, for up to two weeks or half the length of the package, whichever is shorter, which moves the end date by the length of the pause. These rules apply to programs starting on or after 3 August 2026; students who enrolled earlier continue under the terms they accepted. Please contact us at hello@resforme.com so we can find the best arrangement.

Life happens, and we have built room for it. A session moved with at least 12 hours notice costs nothing. Every package also includes make-up sessions, one for each four weeks of its length, so a 4-week package has one, an 8-week package two, and a 16-week package three. Beyond those, a missed session counts as delivered, but the teaching is not lost: the mentor waits 15 minutes, then posts written guidance in Talk2Me the same day covering what the session would have covered, and the student can reply there with questions. If two sessions are missed in a row we write to the parent or guardian, first to check the student is well and then to agree a schedule that fits their week, which may mean fewer live sessions with more of the mentoring in writing, at no change in price. If a mentor misses a session, it does not count and we reschedule it at no cost. These rules apply to programs starting on or after 3 August 2026. The full rules are in Section 6 of our Terms.

That's wonderful—it means student has made efficient progress with strong motivation! Our plans are fixed packages designed to deliver a complete research outcome (foundation, poster, or publication path), including dedicated mentor access and guidance throughout the timeline. For this reason, we do not offer partial refunds for early completion. However, if they'd like to build further (e.g., additional presentations, competitions, or new projects), we're happy to discuss custom extensions—just contact us at hello@resforme.com.

Yes, students have full flexibility in selecting their preferred mentor. During the mentor matching process, students can indicate preferences for mentors from specific countries or regions (e.g., UK, Australia, US, or elsewhere). Many students request mentors from particular countries to align with their future academic or career goals such as non-US students seeking US-based professors for insights into American universities, or US students preferring UK or Australian mentors for guidance on studying or researching abroad. We do our best to accommodate these preferences while ensuring the best expertise match for the student’s research topic.

The mentorship program price you are quoted on acceptance is the full amount you pay. Where a tax applies to your purchase, it is shown before you pay.

We’re flexible and happy to support ongoing research growth! If a student wants to pursue additional conferences, competitions, journal submissions, CV enhancement, college application guidance, or any further research after completing a plan, please contact us directly at hello@resforme.com . We’ll work with you to create a custom extension or new package tailored to their goals—no need to start over.
